'Scrooge' continues this weekend

Pau-Wa-Lu Players present "Scrooge, the Musical," featuring students, staff, teachers and administration from the Douglas County School District. Performances are 7 p.m. today and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, 701 Long Valley Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Community concert Sunday

Carson Valley United Methodist Church presents a community concert at 7 p.m. Sunday. The Carson Valley UMC Chancel Choir and area singers present excerpts from Handel's "Messiah," including the "Hallelujah Chorus." The choruses will be accompanied by the Carson Valley Sinfonia, conducted by John O'Neill. Choral ensemble directed by Dr. Stephen H. Farnsley. Mr. Mark Dorio is church accompanist.

Celebrate world music at free drum concert

A free live drum and dance production of "Durga, A Celebration of Cultures and Music Around the World" is 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Carson Valley Methodist Church Conference Hall, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

The show features drummer and cultural music educator Liz Broscoe accompanied by guest drummers and dancers who perform interactive rhythm and dances from Egyptian, African and Native American cultures. The show is appropriate for all ages. Children will have the opportunity to make and take home a rhythm shaker.

Youth must be accompanied by an adult.

Entertainment at CVI

Major Link continues in the Carson Valley Inn Cabaret Lounge through Saturday, Lord/Quinn appears Dec. 18 and 19 and NFL Football plays in the Cabaret Lounge on Monday and Thursday nights. Live entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum in five 45-minute shows on the half-hour starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

San Francisco Bay area band Major Link covers a range of popular music including pop, rhythm & blues and good ol' rock 'n' roll. The band is Terry Saunders on guitar and Mary Owens on keyboards and vocals.

The Lord/Quinn duo is Stephen Lord on guitar and vocals and Tony Quinn on guitar, keyboard and vocals. Their 1,000-song repertoire includes oldies, country, pop, blues, jazz, soul and rock 'n' roll.

NFL and college football plays in the Cabaret Lounge on Monday and Thursdays with big-screen action, food and beer specials and prize drawings.

The CVI Cafe Cabaret is open 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sundays and 5 p.m. until the end of the third quarter during Monday and Thursday Night Football.

Classical guitar trio at ArtBar tonight

The Sierra Nevada Classical Guitar Holiday Concert features the Triada Trio, 7 p.m. today, at the Copeland Cultural Arts Center ArtBar, 1572 Highway 395, Minden.

The show features classical guitar and holiday music by Triada, a trio of Bulgarian brothers. Performances include arrangements of J.S. Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 3," "Greensleeves," selections from "The Nutcracker Suite," and the Vivaldi trio for lute, violin and basso continuo.
