Unemployed Nevadans who exhausted their jobless benefits will begin receiving extended benefits recently approved by Congress this weekend.
Gov. Jim Gibbons says more than 6,000 residents qualify and pre-registered with the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation to receive extended assistance, the fourth extension approved since the recession began.
The latest extension is retroactive to the week of Nov. 14.
About 120,000 Nevadans are receiving unemployment assistance. The state's unemployment rate in October was 13 percent, the second highest in the nation.
November jobless numbers are expected to be released next week.
