The Douglas boys' basketball team cruised in its home-opener, beating Lowry 80-50 in the first round of the Carson Valley Classic Thursday night.

The Tigers got points from every player on its roster in the win and jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the game after forcingseven turnovers on the Buckaroos first eight possessions.

Douglas also put together runs of 19-2 and 15-2 in the game and allowed just five first-half field goals on defense.

"There were a lot of good things," Douglas coach Corey Thacker said. "But we still have to take care of the ball a little better. We had 27 turnovers and we need to keep it under 18.

"Toward the end of the game we got a little soft. We need to play a full 32 minutes. We got sloppy toward the end. We gave up 31 second-half points and that hurts. We just have to play a complete game."

Hunter Myers led the Tigers with 12 points, Jeremy Burkart added 10, Theo Denson and Jorey Scott each had eight, Matt Thomas had seven and Nick Maestretti and Austin Neddenriep each had six.

"We've made some good steps," Thacker said. "But, we need to keep growing. There's a lot of potential here."
