A memorial service is 1 p.m. Jan. 16 at Tahoe Ridge Winery, 1644 Highway 395, for Gardnerville resident Daphanie Ann Hanson, 62, who died Dec. 4, 2009, at Renown Regional Medical Center from adult respiratory distress syndrome.

Mrs. Hanson was born on Oct. 10, 1947, in Paris Island, S.C. to Steven and Mary Elinor Srader. The daughter of a Marine, she and her family moved around a lot but she graduated from Santa Ana Valley High School. It was at Santa Ana where she met her husband Tom and they were married on May 2, 1969. The couple lived in Colorado and Texas before settling in Yorba Linda, Calif., for 19 years. In 2000 they moved to Lake Tahoe and later to Gardnerville.

Mrs. Hanson was a wonderful singer and an accomplished crafter, but her passion was quilting. She has designed and made countless quilts through the years, for family, friends and charities for which she never accepted payment.

She met many of her best friends through her quilting.

Mrs. Hanson is survived by her husband of 40 years, Tom Hanson, son and daughter-in-law Steve and Michelle Hanson, two grandchildren, James and Grace Hanson of Lincoln, Calif., and sister Stephanie Kastl of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

Donations in her name may be made to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, NV 89410, or Douglas County Animal Care and Services, 921 Pinenut Road, Gardnerville, NV 89410.
