On Jan. 8 and 9, the Douglas High School speech and debate team will be hosting their annual Sagebrush League Tournament.
More than 200 students from 18 high schools in Northern Nevada will compete in both speaking and debating events over the two days.
The team is reliant on the community's help to make the event a success. They are asking for volunteers to help judge the competition.
There is a judging schedule for the two days of events, which has been divided into blocks of time. Individual speaking events will be 3 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 8. Debate events will be 8 a.m. to noon, noon to 4 p.m. and 4-8:30 p.m. on Jan. 9.
The school will provide snacks and beverages, as well as lunch and dinner, for those who are able to judge.
There will be two judging clinics on Jan. 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in DHS room 605, located in one of the portables on the north side of the campus, west of the soccer field.
Parking for the clinic will be in the north lot near the greenhouse. Attendance is not required to judge, but many have found it a helpful orientation.
The public is invited to an awards ceremony at the high school planned for 5 p.m. Jan. 9 for the individual events. Debate awards will be given after the events wrap up that evening.
