Both the Carson Valley Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade boys' basketball teams claimed the Tah-Neva Conference Championship Saturday during the postseason tournament at Carson Middle School in Carson City.
It is believed to be the first time both teams claimed a league title in the same season.
The eighth-graders beat South Tahoe and Eagle Valley to advance to the final against Carson. The seventh-graders beat Eagle Valley and Pau-Wa-Lu to advance to their final, also against Carson.
In the eighth-grade final, Austin Evans and Brandon Pankey led Carson Valley to a 46-26 win over Carson.
Carson Valley pulled away late against the only team to defeat them this season, getting tough interior defense from James Herrick.
Evans led Carson Valley with 15 points while Pankey chipped in nine. Jake Mariani scored six and was key in giving the Tigers needed minutes with Herrick in early foul trouble.
The combination of Jaden Wass, A.J. Pfaffenberger and Jeff Williams at the guard positions helped Carson Valley control the pace of the game from the opening tip.
In the seventh-grade final, Alex Tessmann and Austin Croxall fueled the Tiger attack in a 36-27 win over Carson.
Tessmann led the Tigers with eight points.
