Five people died in vehicle accidents on Douglas highways during 2009, down from seven in 2008, according to figures released by the Nevada Highway Patrol on Thursday.
It was the lowest number of highway fatalities in at least four years.
This year there were five crashes in the county, or one per fatality, according to state figures.
In 2008, there was only one more accident, but it claimed two additional victims. The Nevada Highway Patrol reported eight people died in 2007. Six people died in vehicle accidents during 2006.
Those killed in accidents investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol during 2009 include:
n Jim Perry was killed Dec. 3 in a head-on collision south of Gardnerville on Highway 395.
n Amber Wilson was killed Oct. 15 at Highway 395 and Stephanie Way.
n David Scott Bovino, 23, of Carson City was killed Sept. 3 when his motorcycle struck the rear of a pickup parked at Highway 395 and Jacks Valley Road.
n Donna Levy was killed Sept. 25 in a motorcycle accident on Highway 50 just east of Spooner Summit.
n Christopher Medina was killed in a vehicle rollover on Power Dam Road south of Gardnerville July 15.
The number of alcohol-related fatalities in Douglas County is down from three in 2008 to two so far this year.
