Antelope Valley donations make Christmas special

There are many people in the Antelope Valley who care about the quality of Christmas for our local children. As I mentioned in my last column, Debie Bush and many people through the Walker General Store donate gifts to the Giving Tree to be given out Christmas Eve. In addition, the Antelope Valley Lions Club will be distributing gifts on that evening for children not involved with the Giving Tree. All in all, it is wonderful to see these people give so much time, energy and caring for our kids. Special blessings should go to those involved in these efforts.

H1N1 vaccinations

Mono County Health Department will hold vaccination clinics at the Walker Senior Center on Jan. 5 and 22 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. If you need this vaccination, be sure to go to the clinic.

Library winter hours

Olga Gilbert has let me know that the afternoon hours during the winter will be as follows: 2-6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday. During the winter it is sure nice to snuggle up and read a good book, and they are always getting new books, so give them a visit. In addition, they have many activities for adults and children, so ask them when you're there, or call them at (530) 495-2788 for a complete list of the events.

Be careful

I pride myself on being very careful with the snow and ice we have recently had, but last week, I wasn't very lucky. I hit a tiny patch of what turned out to be ice on my deck and took a big fall. I was one of the lucky ones in that I didn't break any bones, but I have been really hurting in a big way. I just want to remind everyone to be so cautious in these conditions, since we know they are not through for the season.

Happy holidays everyone!
