A Carson City man was sentenced to up to 30 months in Nevada State Prison on one count of trafficking in a controlled substance.

Alejandro Hernandez-Nunez, 31, was arrested Sept. 9 after selling methamphetamine on three occasions.

Defense Attorney Kris Brown told Judge Michael Gibbons that her client was working as a laborer and started selling drugs to support his family.

Brown said it's likely he will be deported upon the completion of his sentence.

"I'm really ashamed and embarrassed for what happened," he told Gibbons through an interpreter. "I know I made the wrong decision and there are consequences."

Hernandez-Nunez was given credit for 70 days time served, which means he will be eligible for parole after 10 months.

n A Stateline man admitted Monday he slashed another man with a knife during an Oct. 28 conflict.

Adam Hernandez, 24, faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted battery with a deadly weapon.

Hernandez said he was drinking at a friend's house when he said three men confronted him.

"I pulled out my pocketknife because I was afraid they would beat me like they did my friend," he said of the incident that occurred in the street in Stateline. "I kind of blacked out and I didn't realize I hurt him."

Judge Michael Gibbons pointed out that if Hernandez was in fear for his life, he had a defense against the charge.

Prosecutor Tom Gregory said that there were a number of witnesses to the incident and they would provide a different story from Hernandez's.

Gibbons set sentencing for Feb. 8.
