EDITOR:
I completely understand why the school district's decision to keep the Valley schools open on Dec. 7 resulted in outcry and concern from both parents and students. Those concerns were valid and I'm sure the district's decision to keep the schools open was a difficult one to make.
I agree that the weather conditions on that day were extreme. I know because I had to drive to work in it.
However, despite the vast criticism of the decision to proceed with a school day, or whether the decision was right or wrong, I would like to take this opportunity to commend our district's bus drivers for prevailing through the difficult weather and driving with the utmost care for all of our students.
The students were transported both to and from school without incident and the bus drivers should be praised for it. I believe our drivers did on that day - and will always - put our students' safety first and foremost.
Remember, some of our bus drivers are parents, too.
