Welcome to the last week of 2009. Having just completed the slog through the year in review, I can honestly say that it seems like the year just started yesterday. The R-C will be closed on Friday for New Year's Day, so we'll be putting three papers together over the next four days. If you need anything in the paper, get it in early.
We got a light dusting of snow Saturday night, but I doubt there was anything like an inch anywhere I went in the Valley over the weekend. Looking at the Heavenly Web site, it looks like they got the same thing.
There are a couple of chances that the weather will bring something interesting this week. There's a 30 percent chance of snow after 4 p.m. today and into the night. Then on Wednesday, the percentage goes up to 50 percent. After that there's a chance it will rain. The precipitation amounts aren't much to write home about, though. Expect a high temperature of 36 degrees today, with a low of 18 degrees tonight.
A man who used methamphetamine while in jail could face up to four years in prison this morning. Shawn Michael Gennarini, 26, is the only adult criminal case this morning in Douglas County District Court. He admitted to one count of felony unlawful use of the drug on Nov. 16 in connection with an Oct. 29 incident. In most cases, probation in the case would be mandatory, but apparently the circumstances of the crime could result in some prison time.
