After hinting at what's to come for four days, the National Weather Service issued its first special weather statement this morning forecasting a change through the weekend. A low pressure system is moving in off the California coast and should bring with it rain and high elevation snow by late Thursday. Forecasters are predicting snow accumulations of up to a foot in the central Sierra above 8,000 feet. A second low pressure system is expected to move through on Sunday.

Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District trustees meet 6 p.m. today at the district offices on Mitch Drive. Manager Bob Spellberg will present his goals for the 2008-09 fiscal year and board members will discuss identity theft prevention and a water valve exercising machine.

At the same time, Minden Town Board members will gather at the CVIC Hall to review their rental and street closure rates. They won't be changing the costs tonight, but that suggestion may be in the air. Also Minden will be looking at a request for the Esmeralda Street farmers market.
