We got the predicted third of an inch of snow late last night, which left the roads a little bit slick. Chains or snow tires are being required on Highway 50 and Kingsbury Grade in Douglas County. Highway 88 over Carson Pass is closed. California's requiring chains or four-wheel drive over Echo Summit and Donner Pass. Highway 395 south of the state line is requiring chains or snow tires, as is Highway 208 to Wellington. Washoe Valley is showing the dreaded purple and yellow on the SafeTravel USA Web site, meaning it has both a wind warning and chains or snow tires required.
We may see a few more snow showers this morning before 10 a.m. Expect the winds to be up with gusts up to 25 mph. That could translate into blowing snow, so take it easy out there.
We're running about 12 percent short of average for the snowpack and way behind in the Valleys. This latest storm dropped nearly 20 inches of new snow at Ebbett's Pass, bringing the total to 67 inches. That only translates to 2.2 inches of new moisture since Friday.
