The 32-acre Nevada 4-H camp at Lake Tahoe, operated by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, is open to organizations to rent for conferences.
The camp is near Heavenly Valley ski resort on Tahoe's south shore and includes 14 cabins and solar-powered lodge, accommodating up to 224 campers in summer and about 70 in winter. The camp has an outdoor amphitheater seating up to 200 along 350 feet of beach.
Camp activities include hiking and kayaking in summer, and skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Groups may make arrangements with camp staff for team-building activities.
Camp manager Travis Lee said Nevada 4-H Camp's location sets it apart from many conference and camping facilities.
"The activities open up a lot of communication issues and allow managers to understand what it means to lead a team," Lee said.
The camp provides meal plans upon request but groups may prepare meals and use the camp's kitchen and dining hall for a per-person fee.
The 4-H Camp opened in 1939, a year after William Rabe sold the land to the Nevada Farm Bureau to establish a camp to benefit Nevada children.
The Nevada 4-H Camp is available for work retreats, weddings and family reunions, although reservation preference is given to 4-H members, children with disabilities and Nevada youth. Information, (775) 588-6943.
