A Gardnerville man was told Wednesday that if he fails probation, he will spend a year in jail.
Clayton Keebaugh, 42, was arrested at Highway 395 and Mica Drive on Dec. 31 after another motorist reported he was driving erratically.
Keebaugh pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday.
Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl pointed out that Keebaugh has been in prison twice and rehab three times over the past 20 years.
"Jail doesn't fix crank addicts," EnEarl observed. "Prison doesn't fix crank addicts. Only crank addicts can fix crank addicts."
Keebaugh said he has reconnected with his family and is back going to meetings.
"I got reinvolved and that's what it takes," Keebaugh said. "If I mess it up, I know what happens and it should happen."
