Gerald 'Jerry' Mahoney

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at St. Gall Catholic Church for Gardnerville resident Gerald 'Jerry' Mahoney, who died Jan. 24, 2009.

Born Feb. 28, 1925, Mr. Mahoney grew up in Southern California, where he graduated from North Hollywood High School. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

After his discharge from the Navy, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department, where he served for 20 years. After his retirement, he worked for the Simi Valley Police Department.

Mr. Mahoney was a Third Star Knight with the Knights of Columbus, in which he served since 1966.

He was a member of the American Legion for many years. He was a great teacher to his children, and enjoyed many camping and fishing trips with his family through the years.

His is survived by his wife of 60 years Patricia Mahoney; seven children; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
