While the winter sports season in Nevada will be coming to a close this weekend with the state basketball tournament in Las Vegas, the spring sports aren't wasting any time getting started.
Douglas High will be hosting tryouts for its spring sports starting Saturday. Times and locations by sport are as follows.
Tryouts for the varsity baseball team are Saturday at 10 a.m. at Tiger Field. They will continue Monday afternoon after school.
The junior varsity squad will have tryouts Saturday at 10 a.m. at the junior varsity field and Monday at 4 p.m.
Tryouts are Monday and Tuesday at Genoa Lakes, although players need to have already attended a mandatory meeting earlier this week in order to try out.
Varsity softball tryouts will be 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Lady Tiger Field. All seniors, juniors and anyone from the varsity roster last season will try out for the varsity team.
Junior varsity tryouts start at 9 a.m. at Lady Tiger Field and run to 11:30. All sophomores and freshmen will try out with the junior varsity team unless invited to try out for varsity.
There may be some who try out with junior varsity in the morning who are asked to come back for varsity in the afternoon.
Tryouts continue for both teams from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday. Varsity will be on Lady Tiger Field and JV will be on the junior varsity field.
Practice will be Monday and Wednesday at the Carson Valley Swim Center from 2:30 to 5:30 (the last hour is dry land training. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Practice begins Saturday at 9 a.m. and will run until noon at the Big George Sports Complex on the Douglas High School campus.
