This weekend more than 100 people will pay to visit Carson Valley's ranches and hear from the people who work them, and hopefully see some eagles.
Calving season has long drawn bald eagles down into the Valley, where they feast on the afterbirth and the occasional carcass.
As folks recognized what was happening, more and more began to line fences along the Valley's lanes in an effort to get a photograph of America's national bird enjoying a meal.
In a classic example of recognizing a need and fulfilling it, Valley ranchers, conservationists and business people invented Eagles & Agriculture in 2003 as a means to educate participants about the challenge of maintaining the fields.
Those fields and the cattle are at the heart of Eagles & Agriculture. Without the fields there wouldn't be any cows birthing calves. That means there wouldn't be anything to attract the eagles or the people willing to pay to see them and hear our ranchers' stories.
We believe Carson Valley's prosperity is in its past, and no where is that more apparent than this weekend.
