A community parent symposium will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 11 at Douglas High School.
Four break-out sessions will be presented on the following topics: Suicide prevention and awareness, healthy relationships and improving family communications, drug prevention and awareness, and cyber space and Internet safety.
Jodi Wass, Pastor Pete Nelson and Mickey Garcia will present signs, symptoms and resources concerning suicide prevention.
Jamie Wise and Mindy Borchers of the Family Support Council will discuss ways to communicate with children, red flags, and facing and resolving conflicts.
FBI special agent Anna Brewer along with Michelle Sahagun and Autumn Foster of Children's Cabinet will give a presentation on interactive Internet safety programs.
Teri Clark of the Partnership of Community Resources and Sgt. Dan Britton of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office will give a presentation on drug awareness. Parents may pick two of the four topics to attend. Cookies will be provided by Douglas High culinary art students and the counseling department.
Information will be available from various agencies, including the Partnership of Community Resources, Big Brother Big Sisters, Tahoe Youth and Family Services, Nevada Department of Child and Family Services Foster Care, the Boys & Girls Club, 2-1-1, Drug Use is Life Abuse, juvenile probation, and the Washoe Tribe.
