A wind advisory is in effect for Carson Valley until 4 p.m. today. Expect winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph. Wind prone areas will see gusts of up to 60 mph and the higher ridges will be scoured by 80 mph winds.
It is definitely raining on the west side of the Valley, but that may not be extending very far east. It's warm out this morning with 49 degrees in the Gardnerville Ranchos and winds 14-16 mph. In Minden it's 46 degrees.
The Weather Service isn't anticipating any great accumulations of snow or rain from this storm. The snow level is going to stay above 5,600 feet unless it cools off significantly. That means less than a tenth of an inch of moisture, in whatever form it arrives.
Chain controls are in effect over Interstate 80 and Echo Summit, but not Highway 88, yet. There is, of course, a wind advisory in Washoe Valley. And if you really want to test your snow tires this morning, Mount Rose Highway is the only place to do it.
