Skiing: Douglas enjoys solid ski debut

The Douglas High ski team got through its first race of the season with solid results at Alpine Meadows Wednesday afternoon.


The Tiger boys took fifth in the Tahoe Basin League opener on the Giant Slalom course, but finished just 10 points out of third.


"Truckee and Tahoe have a lock on the first two places," Douglas coach Rob Parks said. "I think we may be able to earn some third place finishes this year.'


Sophomore Grant Denny put together two solid runs to take 10th overall.


Darren Vega, Tyler Johnson and Brock Crawford finished 20th, 21st and 22nd to round out the scoring for the Tigers.


On the girls' side, Hillary Sapp took 10th and Crystal Rutledge was 11th. Rachel Babbitt took 33rd overall to round out the scoring for the Tigers.


Also for the boys, Gavin Fitzhugh took 26th, Teddy Williams finished 27th and Jake Lovell was 30th.


Tanner DeGiovanni was ninth in the junior varsity race, Johnny Lawrence was 11th, Robert Furin 12th and Scott Chandler 18th.


Truckee won the overall team race with 348 points, followed in order by South Tahoe, North Tahoe, Whittell, Douglas and Incline.
