Former Carson Valley Art Association President Ann Glidden died Dec. 25, 2008, in Gardnerville. She was 85.

Born Dec. 23, 1923, in California to Walter and Ethel Hohstadt, her life centered around her love of art.

In the 1970s she owned a candle shop in Capitola, Calif., called Spir-Wicks. She ran a restaurant in Bethel Island, Calif., where she exhibited her art and later owned a gallery in Rio Vista, Calif.

Mrs. Glidden worked for Monterey and Santa Cruz counties as a graphic artist. For a time, she lived near Lake Chapala in Mexico where she painted porcelain lamps with minerals. She also made beeswax candles.

An avid traveler, Mrs. Glidden's travels took her to China, Greece and France where she lived for a time in a French castle. She also enjoyed sailing making numerous sailing trips down the West Coast to Mexico.

Mrs. Glidden moved to Gardnerville in 1995 from the Comstock, where she had a gallery in the Gold Hill bank building.

She is survived by daughters, Robin (Larry) Borowick of Gardnerville; and Michelle (Al) Feldstein of Livingston, Mont.; brother Guy Hohstadt of Garberville, Calif.; grandchildren Katrina Opelt and Naomi and Chris Borowick and two great grandchildren, Colton and Winston Opelt.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary has been entrusted with her final arrangements.
