The Carson Valley Trails Association invites the public to the organization's annual meeting 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the gazebo at David Walley's Hot Springs, 2001 Foothill Road, Genoa.
The evening will begin with displays, refreshments and no-host bar from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., and will include a Genoa Foothill Trail System project presentation, a preview of the association's 2009 "Hike for Health" event, information about winter hiking and snow shoeing on local trails and more. The event is free; no reservations are needed.
The Carson Valley Trail Association recently received a $396,378 Nevada Division of State Lands Question 1 grant which will fund approximately two-thirds of the new 24-mile Genoa Foothill Trail System project in the Genoa area.
The project is in the beginning phases, with required environmental studies to begin this spring. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2012.
The Carson Valley Trail Association is planning a "Hike for Health" hike-a-thon beginning on April 22 (Earth Day) and continuing through June 6 (National Trails Day). The event will kick off the organization's effort to raise the required matching funds for the Question 1 grant. The Carson Valley Trails Association invites families, community groups, schools, businesses and others to form teams and secure cash pledges for each mile that they hike between April 22 and June 6.
