A head-on injury accident late Wednesday night on Highway 395 above Bodie Flats resulted in a man and woman being helicoptered for medical treatment.
The first reports on the accident were received at 10:54 p.m.
The accident involved a van and a sedan. An older man in the van and a woman in the sedan had to be cut from their vehicles.
Ambulance helicopters from Gardnerville and Reno responded to the accident.
The highway was closed until 2:17 a.m. Thursday.
Carson City and Mono County fire units assisted East Fork firefighters by covering calls in the north and south county.
A Bodie Flats resident said she could see the accident from her home.
"There were big bright lights and lot of police cars," the woman said. "They called in two helicopters. One of the helicopters landed and the other had to hover until the first one left."
The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
