Genoa antiques, appraisal clinic

The 15th annual Genoa Antiques Show and Sale with appraisal clinic is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Genoa Town Hall. Admission is $1.50 and appraisals are $5 per item. The show benefits the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. Information, genoaevents.com or 782-4951.


Nevada pageant meeting Sunday

An informational meeting for the Miss Douglas County and Miss Carson City scholarship programs is 2 p.m. Sunday at Round Table Pizza, 961 Topsy Lane, Carson City.

Women 17-24 are invited to attend the meeting about the 2009 Miss Douglas County and Miss Carson City pageant. Candidates should be at least a graduating high school senior, never married or pregnant. Parents are welcome at the meeting. 'Inkheart' party

The Dragon Slayers, the Douglas County Public Library Teen Advisory Board, hosts an Inkheart celebration, 3:30 p.m. Jan. 23, at the library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden. "Inkheart" and other books by Cornelia Funke will be featured in the free program for teens grades six through 12. The event includes games, pizza, soda and a chance to win tickets to the "Inkheart" movie.

The Inkheart celebration is sponsored by the Friends of the Douglas County Public Library, Ironwood Stadium Cinema 8 and the Dragon Slayers. Sign up by Jan. 22. Information, Maria, 782-9841 or douglas.lib.nv.us


Sweetheart dance

Douglas County Parks & Recreation's Father-Daughter Sweetheart Dance is 6:30-9 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds building. Dancing to DJ music. Refreshments will be served and photo keepsakes available for an additional fee.

Cost is $20 per couple and $8 per additional daughter. Register at the recreation office, 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, or at 782-9828.


Year of the Ox

Celebrate Chinese New Year of the Ox, 1-3:30 p.m. Feb. 7, at Gardnerville Elementary School, 1290 Toler Ave., Gardnerville.

Traditional Chinese music and dance will be performed by Sonia Carlson and the Chinese Cultural Group. Activities include Chinese calligraphy, origami, games, art and crafts and a New Year parade with Chinese lions. Chinese snacks will be served. Cost is $8 for ages 5 and older, $7 for seniors and free for children younger than 4 years.

Knights' cioppino

The Knights of Columbus' third annual cioppino dinner is Feb. 7 at the St. Gall Pastoral Center. The cioppino dinner includes green salad, French bread, dessert and nonalcoholic beverages. Steak may be substituted for cioppino. Cost is $30 per person. Tickets are available at the church office until Feb. 1. Information, 782-2852 or 265-2366.
