Girls' Basketball: Coleville splits weekend

The Coleville Lady Wolves outscored the Gerlach Lady Lions 30-6 in the first half and coasted to a 45-19 victory in Friday's contest at Gerlach.


All 10 of Coleville's players scored in the victory with Skyler Isbell leading the way with nine points and 15 rebounds.


Molly Garcia was Coleville's top rebounder with 19 rebounds and five points.


Jessica Parkhurst scored seven points and Chrissy Lawton had six points in solid offensive games. Freshman Lela Gnuse-Stokes contributed 11 rebounds, four points and a team-high six steals in a strong performance.


On the day, the Lady Wolves grabbed a team record 80 rebounds including 55 offensive rebounds.


Saturday's home game didn't go as well with the Virginia City Lady Muckers routing Coleville by a final score of 66-35.


Virginia City forced Coleville into 44 turnovers, a season high. In the best game of her young career, Gnuse-Stokes led the Lady Wolves with nine points, eight rebounds, and two steals.


Molly Garcia grabbed 11 rebounds and scored eight points with Kassie Pemberton and Skyler Isbell adding six points each.


Martha Robles led Coleville with three assists and three points.


"Virgina City has an outstanding team," Coleville coach Will Sandy. "They are very athletic, execute well as a team, and shoot extremely well.


"Although we were out of the game early, down 39-14 at halftime, our girls continued to play hard. I think we learned a lot about our character in this game."


Coleville ends the weekend 3-2 in league play and 7-7 overall. The Wolves travel to Excel Christian on Friday for a 3 p.m. game before hosting Smith Valley for a 4 p.m. game on Saturday.
