There's a correction to the county budget story. According to County Manager T. Michael Brown, they found a job for one of the laid off county employees elsewhere. So there were in fact only three layoffs in the county.
Federal, state and local offices are closed today for observance of Martin Luther King Day. That means the banks and the post office are closed, too.
The high pressure that has kept a lid on the Valley for two weeks may be moving on this week. The National Weather Service is predicting a 30 percent chance of rain on Thursday. Until then, though expect today to be sunny with a high near 52 degrees. The smoke will remain as a temperature inversion locks it down. Lows will stay in the teens. It's 15 degrees in Minden this morning.
