A memorial service is 4 p.m. today at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville for longtime Minden resident Janice Parker Frost, 86, who died Jan. 17, 2009.
Born May 4, 1922, near El Paso, Texas, she and husband Dr. Calvert Frost retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District. The couple moved to Nevada to be near their family.
Mrs. Frost was active in many Valley organizations including the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, John C. Fremont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, Carson Valley and Nevada art associations, Tahoe Art League, and the Carson Valley Genealogy Society. She loved going to the Douglas County Senior Center and volunteering at Meneley Elementary School.
Mrs. Frost, who was known as "Necie," was a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was beautiful, loving, kind, and was never hesitant to help others. She was well respected by peers for all of her community effort. Everyone who knew her will miss her deeply.
She is preceded in death by her husband.
Mrs. Frost is survived by son Scott; daughter Mary (Dan) Wright; grandsons Glenn and Evan; granddaughter Karena (Jess); and great granddaughter, Kylie.
She will be interred at Hillcrest Cemetery in Smith Valley at a later date.
