Kathy Watkins of Mono County Department of Social Services has let me know that the county's emergency trailers are filled and ready in all eight of their communities. The trailers are stocked with cots, sleeping mats, large beverage containers and basic food supplies. They are prepared for any emergency such as fire or flood, and will be ready to help our citizens if the need arises. Kathy gives special thanks to the Antelope Valley Women's Club, Antelope Valley Lions Club, the community of Walker, and the board of supervisors for all their help in making this happen in our area.

Mountain Gate project

The Antelope Valley Regional Planning Advisory Committee has been working with Mono County to turn this area into a day-use park. To go further forward, they are planning a workday at the area this Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., weather permitting. There is still plenty left to clean up to get ready for the ultimate planned use to be possible. If you would like to help, please feel free to come to Mountain Gate and join them.

County facility meeting

The public meeting I mentioned last week took place Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, many who attended feel that more might have been accomplished that evening. Brian Muir of the county's finance department was present, as well as a consultant hired by the county to evaluate the needs of all their facilities in Mono County. There were some ideas proposed, and the consultant requested even more input in writing. I'll pass on the correct address when I can get it from the county.

Thrift store sale

The Walker Thrift Store is again holding sale of all store merchandise you can fit into a large bag, except jewelry, for $6, until Saturday. I've seen all the new merchandise they have put out, and I'm sure you can find some real bargains and nice quality items for the low price.
