Organizers are in the process of rounding up members for the reorganization of the Carson Valley Roping Club. An introductory meeting is 7 p.m. Thursday at Sharkey's.
"We had the club for 20 years but it's been out of commission for about three years," said Rex Cleary. "In 1980 we had to put a cap at 65 members and still had people on a waiting list, but over the years it trickled down to 10 ropers."
Cleary said he has about 30 names on a list of interested team ropers. He and three other roping instructors decided to address this renewed interest by re-establishing the Carson Valley Roping Club.
Cleary recommends attending the introductory meeting at Sharkey's so they will know how many people will be in the club.
"We need to know the number so we know how many steers to order. There will be one steer per student," he said.
The club is for beginners and experienced ropers. Practice sessions will be held at the main arena of the Douglas County Fairgrounds from mid-April to mid-October, with jackpot ropings monthly.
