Army veteran and 23-year Gardnerville resident William (Bill) H. Stevens, 91, died at his home on Jan. 9, 2009 with his wife by his side.
Mr. Stevens was born in Germany on March 22, 1917, and after attending university in Berlin moved to the United States where he joined the U.S. Army, and returned to Europe to serve under Gen. Patton with the 3rd Army during World War II.
Mr. Stevens remained in Germany with the United States Army as an intelligence officer in Stuttgart until 1948. After returning to the United States, he had a long career in the textile industry and upon his retirement decided to relocate to Gardnerville in 1985 where he continued to stay active with golf, tennis, fishing, and just enjoying life.
Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his first wife Hilda.
He is is survived by wife Denise; son Peter; daughter Renee and stepchildren Vivien, Paul, Connie, Shelly and Dan; numerous grandchildren and his extended family in Luxembourg.
