We sold completely out of tickets for this year's "Hotel Minden" melodrama. That means you can now see the Feb. 5 dress rehearsal. Those who didn't get tickets earlier won't have to miss out.
And this year we have a special evening in store for you. This year's dress rehearsal will feature a champagne reception. Your $10 ticket, purchased at the door, will include one glass of champagne and hors d'oeuvres before the show. If you don't care for champagne, wine, water or soft drinks will be available.
The doors will open for ticket sales and the reception at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. There will be no advanced ticket sales, so be sure to show up early. Once you have your ticket, get your drink, sample our array of hors d'oeuvres and settle in for the 6 p.m. curtain.
This performance will be just like the ones on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We will have a raffle for this performance with the winner getting half of the proceeds of the raffle ticket sales. The only difference is you'll get to see the melodrama before everyone else does and you'll get champagne and hors d'oeuvres.
Perhaps the best part is that you along with all those attending Friday through Sunday will be a part of supporting the Douglas County Historical Society and its two museums. This economy is challenging and sustaining two museums takes a lot of help from the community. We are so grateful for your support in this fundraising endeavor.
Meanwhile, that January photo contest is still open. Snap a photo of something that reminds us all of January and enter it by 4 p.m. Saturday.
Student-Senior Day is Feb. 7 and we are showing that old favorite "Chicken Every Sunday." The movie was filmed here at the original V&T Railway and features Dan Dailey, Celeste Holm, 10-year-old Natalie Wood and William Frawley, better known as Fred Mertz from "I Love Lucy." The story takes place in 1910 Tucson, but was filmed in Nevada in 1948. Showings will be at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Each showing takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
If you have any questions about anything mentioned here, please call the Douglas County Historical Society at the Carson Valley Museum & cultural Center in Gardnerville at 782-2555. Visit our Web site at www.historicnevada.org. Remember, DCHS and its two museums, the museum in Gardnerville and the Genoa Court House Museum, do not receive any regular state or county funding. It's up to our members and friends to help us keep our doors open.
