The Douglas girls' basketball team bounced back from a tough loss at Galena earlier in the week to pick up a solid win over Damonte Ranch Friday night in Reno.
Jessica Waggoner led all scorers with 18 points as Douglas won 56-42 in a game that the Tigers led by as many as 20 points at times in the second half.
Damonte started the game off by building a 6-2 lead over the first three minutes, but Douglas made a couple of adjustments defensively and closed out the first quarter on a 19-2 run.
Douglas coach Werner Christen said the team was trying out some new wrinkles on defense and that they worked out well in the game.
Damonte Ranch made a late run in the fourth quarter to close the gap to 44-34 but the Tigers pulled quickly back out with consecutive baskets from Taryn Williams, Waggoner, Dany Heidt, Williams and Ne'Jae Jackson.
Jackson finished with nine points, Williams had eight, Heidt had six, Bri Burnside had four, Maci Pfaffenberger had three, Jackie Harper and Cassi Uhart each had two and Katie Dry finished with one.
Douglas improved to 6-4 in league play and appears to be in a battle for the No. 3 seed in the playoffs with Carson High and Fallon, who both also have 6-4 records. Douglas holds the tiebreaker advantage over Fallon for winning the second-round game and Carson and the Tigers will meet in the regular season finale.
