Offseason workouts at Douglas High

The fall sports teams at Douglas High School will be holding voluntary conditioning sessions throughout the summer.

Athletes need to have completed the school's clearance process in order to participate in the workouts.

The school will present a mandatory drug, alcohol and tobacco presentation for all new athletes on Aug. 12 at 6 p.m.

All new athletes and a parent or guardian must attend the event.

A mandatory random drug testing presentation is the same night at 6:30 for all new and returning athletes.

A parent or guardian of each athlete must be in attendance for this presentation as well.

The first official day of football practice is Aug. 13 and the first day of practice and tryouts for the remaining fall sports is Aug. 17.

Preseason conditioning sessions are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday this week and July 13, July 15 and July 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the high school.

After a week-long break, they'll pick back up on July 28 and 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. and continue on Aug. 5 and 6 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The school's annual alumni game will be Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. and conditioning sessions will be Aug. 11-14 at 8 a.m. at the high school.

Tryouts begin Aug. 17 and continue Aug. 18 with two-a-day sessions set for 8 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.

Regular practices start Aug. 19 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The junior varsity team will have workouts every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at the high school from 3 to 5 p.m.

The freshman team will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the high school.

Players need to wear black, orange, white or grey T-shirt and shorts and bring cleats, athletic shoes and a jump rope.

The girls' tennis team will begin voluntary workouts on July 13.

The team will work out from 8 to 9:30 a.m. three times a week at the high school. The weeks of July 13, July 27 and Aug. 10, the team will work out on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The weeks of July 20 and Aug. 3, the workouts will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Mandatory tryouts will be 8 to 10 a.m. on Aug. 17 and 18 at the high school. Players must attend both days of tryouts in order to make the team.

The volleyball team will have workouts on Mondays and Wednesdays through most of the summer.

They will be at Zephyr Cove Beach through July and the first week of August from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Two-a-day conditioning runs Aug. 10 through 14 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Douglas High track and from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gym.

Tryouts begin Aug. 17.
