A 2005 Douglas High School graduate was sentenced to 140 months in connection a robbery spree that covered three states, including a jewelry store at Kingsbury Grade
Sam Sourikoff, 22, confessed to an Aug. 28, 2007, armed robbery at J.P. Chadom Jewelers, Kingsbury Grade, but was not charged in exchange for his guilty pleas to the Oregon robberies.
Witnesses said a masked gunman had entered the jewelry store and held two women at gunpoint, demanding gold and diamonds. The suspect allegedly took a tray of high end rings and diamonds from a display case, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect is seen in a store security video pointing a semi-automatic handgun at the women in the store.
In late November 2008, Sourikoff was arrested during a failed attempt of a robbery in the Eugene, Ore., area. Investigators alleged Sourikoff had been involved in several other robberies in Oregon, Nevada, and possibly California.
Seven rings stolen from Chadom jewelers turned up at a pawn shop in Portland, Ore., according to the report.
Investigators worked with several law enforcement agencies to identify robberies he had committed and began working to obtain a plea deal with in return for Sourikoff's cooperation in closing the unknown number of robberies he had committed.
On Aug. 24, 2007, a gunman attempted to rob a Tahoe City jewelry store, but failed because the store wasn't open and the owner would not unlock the doors for the suspect.
