A memorial service is 11 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville for native Nevadan and lifetime Minden resident LeRoy John Tietje, 72, who died July 5, 2009.
Born Dec. 21, 1936, in Carson City to John and Mabel Tietje, he was a 1955 graduate of Douglas County High School. He married Beverly Prien on Feb. 9, 1963, in Gardnerville.
Mr. Tietje worked for the Nevada Department of Transportation until he retired. He also retired from the Gardnerville Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, pitching horseshoes and traveling. He was a member of the Carson Valley 20-30 Club.
Family members remembered him as a loving and devoted family man.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Scot Tietje.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children Kim (Ken) Belleville of Townsend, Mont., Ted (Jennifer) Tietje of Oroville, Wash., Michelle Tietje of Carson City and Kerri Georgetta of Sparks; daughter-in-law Debra Tietje of Hayward; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family requests donations be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, PO Box 6001, Albert Lea, Minn., 56007-6601.
