A red flag warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today. A fire weather watch has been issued from Wednesday afternoon through evening.
According to the weather service, strong gusty winds are expected to occur this afternoon and evening across the Sierra front and south to Mono and Mineral counties. Southwest to west winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph are forecast to combine with afternoon humidity of 5 to 10 percent.
With fuels rapidly drying across western Nevada and Eastern California, the increasing winds will aid rapid fire growth.
Gusty southwest winds are forecast again Wednesday afternoon and evening with winds of 15-20 mph and gusts to 35 mph as relative humidity drops below 15 percent.
