Drilling operations of the deep well for irrigation purposes on the H. H. Springmeyer Land Development and Livestock company ranch in Carson Valley was completed several days ago, a depth of 400 feet having been reached. Other necessary work on the well has been under way and for the past several days a night shift has been engaged in order to put the well in operation at an early date. Mr. Pennington of the Western Drilling company gave it as his estimate that the well will have a flow of 2600 gallons per minute or better.

Photo caption. Pfc. Gary Lundergreen, former star athlete at Douglas high school and the University of Nevada, is still wearing No. 21, his old high school number, but the uniform is now that of the U.S. Army. Since this picture was taken, Lundergreen has changed to a baseball suit and is playing shortstop for the Nancy Dodgers, which was in first place with a 12-1 record recently. In addition to traveling with the team, he is the non-commissioned officer in charge of the Army gym at Nancy, France. He hopes to get an early out next April to apply for a teaching-coaching job. His two-year enlistment will be up next June.

Photo caption. A pinyon pine south of Cedar Flat goes up in smoke and flames Friday as fire crews were busy elsewhere dealing with areas of higher priority. The Indian Creek Fire was estimated to have traveled as fast as six miles in six hours after high winds fanned the original flame that was believed to have been set by a person. Officials said a moisture content of only 5-10 percent in the area's vegetation augmented its rapid spread.
