EDITOR:
I used to enjoy the column "Fence Lines" by Marie Johnson. Her writings about ranching in Carson Valley made for interesting reading. Her last few articles have been pointedly too liberal for me. Her July 8, 2009 editorial praised Iowa for its decision to legalize same-sex marriage. Her articles no longer contain much about cattle ranching. If I wanted to read about gay marriage I'd buy the San Francisco Chronicle instead of The Record-Courier.
According to the Des Moines Register April 3, 2009 issue, the decision made by the Iowa Supreme Court "runs counter to the expressed opinion of a majority of Iowans who believe marriage is defined as the union of one man and one woman." The people of Iowa have the option of amending the state constitution in 2012 to have the will of the people be the law of the land.
My take on the issue is this; Iowans are much like the majority of American Citizens. They believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
