A celebration of life is in August for five-year Gardnerville resident Evelyn Leona Maddex, 102, who died July 10, 2009.
Born March 21,1907, in Pasadena, Calif., she and her brother Virgil were orphaned as young children and raised by family members.
She was married to Kenneth Maddex in 1927. They had a daughter, Carol Martin.
Mrs. Maddex was an accomplished bridge player, a creative artist and china painter, who operated a successful ceramics studio in Cayucos, Calif., where she lived for many years before moving to Gardnerville in 2004. She loved fishing, bird watching, and had a great love for the outdoors.
Mrs. Maddex was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter.
She is survived by grandchildren, Jeri Gresham of Silver Springs, Kathy Cullen (Gary) of Gardnerville, Ken Cox (Denise) of Dayton and Dan Cox (Brandy) also of Dayton; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
