School aged children from Carson Valley and surrounding areas will have a chance to shop for basic clothes and fashions on Aug. 1 when the Sierra Nevada Active 20-30 Club No. 730 will take more than 60 deserving kids back-to-school clothes shopping.
The club is seeking monetary donations and volunteers to take the children shopping.
The women of the Sierra Nevada Club have set out to raise $6,000. This will enable each child to receive $100 for clothes and shoes. Additionally, one adult volunteer is needed for each child to help him or her select the back-to-school items.
"Donations and volunteers from the community provide deserving children the opportunity to start the school year well prepared and with a positive attitude," said Jacquie Manoukian, the club's event chair. "We are proud of our past success in providing opportunities to children and will continue to do so in the future."
"This is our fifth year organizing this event," said Jennifer Motti, club president. "Last year, there was an overwhelming need and, with the generosity of the community, we were able to provide new clothes to 77 children, an all-time high. With the continued recession, we expect there again to be a high demand. We'd love to help every child in need but can only do so with the help of the community."
The shopping spree is slated for Aug. 1 beginning at 7 a.m. at the Walmart on Topsy Lane. Volunteers must arrive at the north entrance of the store, near McDonald's, by 6:15 a.m. for a brief overview. The children will start arriving at 6:30 a.m. For additional information, to volunteer, or to donate, contact Jacquie Manoukian at (775) 781-7397, or e-mail to jacquie2030@hotmail.com.
