Former Douglas High standout Chris Balcom-Miller is off to a strong start in his young professional baseball career.
Balcom-Miller, who was taken by the Colorado Rockies in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in June, has been pitching for the Casper Ghosts in the Rookie Pioneer League for the last month.
He was named the league's Pitcher of the Week last week after dominating the Helena Brewers with five strikeouts and one walk in five hitless innings for his first professional win.
In four starts, he is carrying a 1.06 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched.
He beat the Missoula Osprey Friday with seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings pitched.
He also garnered a mention among the "prospects to watch" in the Most Valuable Network's Colorado Rockies' midseason review last week.
