More than 500 people will walk through the night to fight cancer. Their weapon will be the pledges they've gathered to raise money for cancer research.
Some will be people who've had cancer and beaten it. Others will be relatives of those who've succumbed to the deadly disease. All will be people whose lives have been touched by cancer in one way or another.
Many of the 65 teams have gone to great lengths to raise money, planting flamingos on peoples lawns or leaving a toilet where people would pay to have it removed.
All these things were done in fun for a great cause, and are reminders of the character of this place we love.
The goal this year is $125,000, and despite some fairly hard times we're confident that Carson Valley and its surrounding residents will come through.
When it comes time to pass the hat, whether it is for a more structured event like Relay, or to help a family in need, we've found Valley residents always at the ready.
So here's hoping this year's Relay will be successful, and that one day the search for a cure that it supports will be, too.
