I know there are a number of pros and cons to the new Gardnerville motocross track next to the Douglas County Animal Shelter. On the con side, some people will be bothered by the noise which is understandable unless you're riding or a spectator. And since most motocross enthusiast seem to travel in their own self contained RVs and get free camping at the site I wonder where Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Authority Director Bill Chernock came up with the "conservative estimate" of economic benefit to Douglas County between $700,000 and $1 million.
But perhaps what should upset most people in the Ruhenstroth area is the knowledge that motocross is a dusty sport. To keep that from being a problem there are several water trucks watering the track nearly continuously. Wonder where all that water comes from?
I saw the watering trucks going to the same well at the Douglas County Fairgrounds that about a year ago access was refused to the developer of Buffalo Run because of the concern of drying up wells in Ruhenstroth. So far no one from Douglas County has notified residents of Ruhenstroth that they are allowing the Nevada Motorcross Park to use water from that well. Or for justifying to the developer of Buffalo Run why he didn't get water but motocross did.
