Former Douglas High standout Kyle Mannschreck has signed a letter of intent to play soccer for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Mannschreck graduated from Douglas after earning first-team All-Sierra League honors as a senior and starting for two years on defense for the Tigers.

"Kyle Mannschreck brings speed and determination with him to the field," coach Daniel Rosaia said. "He understands what it takes to become an Urban Knight and is willing to make the sacrifices needed to succeed as a student-athlete."

After high school, Mannschreck played soccer for two years at Feather River College in Quincy, California.

Mannschreck will be joining the Urban Knights in the fall and plans to major in Graphic Design.

The 2009 season will mark Academy of Art University's second season of play. However, this will be the first season playing a complete Pacific West Conference schedule.

The team went 5-8-4 last year.

Former Douglas standout Morgan LeFever plays for the Urban Knights' women's soccer team.
