The Elks Summerfest Carnival at Lampe Park opens at 4 p.m. today, and noon on Saturday and Sunday. Don't wait too late to go on Sunday, though, because it closes early.

Gardnerville is showing "The Wizard of Oz" for free in Heritage Park tonight. The movie starts at dusk, which should be somewhere around 8:30 p.m. Bring a blanket and a picnic.

It looks like it was a quiet night from a weather point of view with most of the excitement out east of us. They reported half-inch size hail in Cold Springs. We're going to see more thunderstorms today and Saturday, but the Weather Service is predicting they will move off by Sunday. We'll see. This thing has already stayed longer than anticipated.

Today we'll see a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms today, tonight and Saturday with things slowing down through Saturday and Sunday. The high today is predicted to hit 91.
