A National Weather Service spotter reported nickel-sized hail and .88 inches of rain fell nine miles southeast of Minden at 3:36 a.m. today. The spotter said the hail was covering the ground. It definitely rained overnight on the west side of the Valley. It was definitely our turn for some weather with a quarter inch of rain falling in Gardnerville on Wednesday morning with pea-sized hail.
People may not just be talking about the weather, but doing something about it on Friday as Douglas High officials watch the skies to determine whether they are going to postpone graduation. We're checking to discover when the last time a graduation was rained out. Expect more scattered showers today after 11 a.m. Chance of rain is 50 percent. The high will climb to 69 degrees, according to the Weather Service.
Douglas County commissioners meet 1 p.m. today. There's a stack of festival permits on the consent agenda including one for Martha Williams Peddler's Faire. Commissioners are also expected to appoint a new trustee for the Indian Hills General Improvement District. Ron Kruse was recommended by the board on a 2-1 vote. In addition to Kruse, Art Baer, Bill Moriarty, Charles Swanson and Ron Lynch filed applications.
