A 22-year-old Gardnerville man pleaded guilty June 2 to driving under the influence for the third time, a crime he committed with weeks of his second DUI arrest.
Matthew McClintock is to be sentenced July 21.
District Judge Dave Gamble agreed to delay the sentencing if McClintock is undergoing treatment.
"I don't want him out on the street," Gamble said.
"At 22, with your third DUI, you've got a lot reasoning to do for your life," Gamble said. "This is really scary. I hope you've decided you've had all the alcohol you're allowed for the rest of your life."
McClintock is serving 90 days in Douglas County Jail for the second DUI conviction.
"If there is a (treatment) bed, he can go," said Tod Young, McClintock's lawyer. "It's really critical he get some treatment. None of us can imagine being 22 and getting your third DUI."
McClintock was arrested May 4 driving his motorcycle on State Route 207 to Lake Tahoe. He was awaiting sentencing for a March 7 arrest for driving under the influence. His first DUI was April 1, 2006.
He faces up to six years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
