Gardnerville photographer Nancy Hulsey was running out of time to enter the monthly Carson Valley Photo contest, "so I just went out shooting anything." Her image of a rural barn beneath a cloudy sky was worth the effort - it won first place. She titled the picture "First Cutting."

Theme for the monthly competition was buildings. For July, it will be patriotism.

Second place went to club president Pat Stanley for a neck-craning shot of skyscrapers in the Financial District of San Francisco.

Priscilla Forster's "Open The Floodgates," taken at Boulder Dam, won third place.

Club member Ralph Phillips shared a history of photography and displayed several cameras dating from the 19th century.

The club meets the second Tuesday each month at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville at 6:30 p.m. Information, Pat Stanley, napapat7373@charter.net or (775) 392-0192.
