GENOA, Nev.
Riders from the 30th re-ride of the Pony Express are expected to arrive in Genoa at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday on the way to Sacramento. The time may vary by hours.
The first rider left St. Joseph, Mo., June 9 to deliver mail to Pony Express Plaza in Old Sacramento by Friday.
The 1,966-mile route over the Pony Express National Historic Trail crosses Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada to California's Central Valley.
The 10-day event commemorates the 149th anniversary of the founding of the Pony Express, which carried letters and telegrams from 1860-1861.
The Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association's hotline is (775) 246-3756. A GPS unit in the mochila transmits riders' location during the ride.
